Current Project: The Story Of...

Description: 

This is Laila's newest project that is still in progress.

“Story of…” is a filmed performance with one woman on stage, moving and dancing to the sound of drums and the voices of other women describing how they imagine this performance to be. The video creates a universe that relates dance to intimate and personal stories about the female body, motherhood, and grieving.  The project delves into the women's silenced and private narratives and attempts to voice what “should not” be discussed in public, what makes social conversations awkward, and what prevents women from grieving in public.
