Wanaset Yodit (2020)

Description:
Two women from Soltau, Abir Omer and Yodit Akbalat, fled from Sudan to northern Germany several years ago. Together with Laila Soliman, they developed the idea for Wanaset Yodit – a coffee ceremony with Yodit, Abir and the audience. Due to the pandemic and the resulting lockdown, the team had to change their plans: For Theaterformen 2020 the work was premiered in the form of an installation on site in Braunschweig and by post. In a cosy atmosphere with coffee, the audience can listen to Yodit’s story as an audio/video installation and get in touch with the two friends by phone. In the live version the living room of Abir and Yodit becomes a stage, the audience sits comfortably on cushions and listens to the stories of the two women in Arabic and German. Here too, they tell their story with a lot of humour. These are stories that we often hear in the media from men, but too seldom from women as main protagonists. Coffee is drunk together and Yodit reads the future from shells to the audience.
Laila was the Director for this installation and performance project.
